Everytime I shutdown my computer I end up at a black screen with orange lettering that says "It is now safe to shutdown your computer". The problem with that is is that I have to then hold down the power button on my computer for about 5 + seconds to have the computer shutdown completely. I'm running an HP Paviilon

So now when I start up, there's a black screen up until the point the windows login screen apears. Tried a few BIOS's from these sites, and still got the cursor problem.

Dying in the middle of booting the computer and then just sitting there with a black screen? Half drawn Guru messages that don't flash or allow a reset via the left-mouse-button? Crashing while trying to boot that ends with a rapidly flashing power light, but no Guru? Pulldown menus disappear on all screens?

A perfect install, and it isn't me--I've been dogged with all sorts of problems up until now, including the black screen steady beep mode (that's a top-of-the-board shorting problem, I'm convinced--you need to use drive mounting screws on the board), and IRQ assignment problems with my existing TB Malibu ISA sound

Black screen, power cycling req'd. I resorted to Xaccel 1.3 which I really can heartily recommend. This works fine despite that no mouse was found. I asked the guy who assembled the machine and he told me it was a PS/2 mouse. Bullet shaped LOGITECH mouse with a cable leading into a backplane sheet with plug.

One other thing it did was leave a long black screen at the end of the movie. By 'long', I mean around ten minutes. This meant than when imported into iDVD, the movie didn't return to the title screen after completing, because it thought there was still this long, black screen still to go.
